I’m amazed and humbled by the opportunities God places in my life. I recently had coffee with a friend of mine who is an experienced pastor and we started talking about the web and business and struck upon a great idea. This isn’t a great idea in the sense that it’s a million dollar idea, it’s a great idea in the sense that we believe it will be something that will help tens of thousands of people. We hashed out the idea on a piece of paper and two weeks later have a site launched and a book underway.
The idea is to help people who suffer through church splits. A church split occurs for many reasons, but the outcome is a broken church body with people leaving the church for one reason or another and can be devastating not only for the church itself, but more importantly, devastating to the people in the church. A majority of Christians will experience a church split at some point in their life and we believe the prevention, survival, and recovery from church splits is an area which is underserved. Frankly, people don’t want to talk about it in the Christian world, but it’s an area that needs addressed.
We’ve launched ChurchSplits.com as a resource to help people prevent a church split, survive during a church split, and recover from a church split.
I recently spoke with a friend of mine who is on staff at a church which is in the middle of a church split. The church’s senior pastor and some of the congregation has been there for 20+ years, while many of the leaders are newer and want to make some structural changes to the church. There is some desire to change worship and transition to a church more open to new believers. Some of the older members and the senior pastor do not want to make the change so there is tremendous friction in the church. Several of the members have left and many more are planning to do so. This is a terrible situation for this church and one which could have been prevented with the right tools and help.
I pray that ChurchSplits.com becomes a resource for people in situations like this and we can help people prevent church splits from happening to them. For those that have suffered through a church split, I pray this book and website helps them recover from the pain.
